My Definition of ‘Luxury’ in the World of Wedding Cakes

In an industry where the word, ‘luxury’ is used at every turn, it’s easy to forget what it truly means. It’s become synonymous with how something looks – extravagant, lavish, desirable. But the real luxury is much more than just a beautiful wedding cake.

As a wedding cake designer, I believe luxury is a feeling. It’s the experience I offer from the moment a couple enquire, along with everything that goes on behind-the-scenes. It’s the care, intention and dedication that makes you and your cake vision feel completely seen and supported. Luxury isn’t just about the cake – it’s the journey to get there, and how incredible it feels when we arrive!

I’m a true perfectionist when it comes to wedding cakes, often waking up in the (very) early hours to hand-craft hundreds of intricate sugar flowers. I make sure clients across the world receive the same level of service, taking time to host virtual consultations in the middle of the night for couples who are in Australia or other far-flung locations. I take pride in making sure I am available on Sundays, odd hours and essentially, whenever you need me because your wedding day isn’t just another date in my diary… It’s your once-in-a-lifetime occasion. And I care endlessly about making sure it’s everything you’ve always dreamed of. It brings me a huge amount of pleasure in getting to know you, your personalities and the things you adore, and because of this, I often find I form friendships with my couples!

Luxury is when you have a love for florals and I capture that in the most personal way imaginable, understanding the specific flowers featured throughout the rest of your wedding day, speaking to your florist and spending weeks and months perfecting each petal. Luxury is sending you specific colour palettes and icing samples to make sure your vision is as accurate as possible. I also see luxury as a collaboration with the rest of your wedding suppliers, ensuring we’re all on the same page, with our visions, details and timelines aligned.

 And of course, luxury is also in your wedding cake. It’s found in the eggs I collect from our local farm, the rich Belgian chocolate, the delicate sugar paste and more – all because it comes together to create edible perfection. It’s my consideration of flavour creations, expertly shaped by years of fine dining, my genuine love for food and my time working in high-end restaurants. This experience, passion and expertise has allowed me to create elevated wedding flavours that are unforgettable in every mouthful.

Luxury is also in those tiny details that are truly everlasting. The tweaks to your wedding cake sketches, the unseen hours that are poured into your wedding cake and the passion I hold for creating something extraordinary for you. Because at the end of the day, I see luxury as everything that your wedding cake encompasses – the experience, the service, the attention to detail, the ingredients, the taste and finally, the aesthetics.
