Journal Feature - Katie & Alex’s Beautiful Brympton House Wedding

Holly Miller

When Katie and Alex reached out to me about their wedding day and mentioned it was to be hosted at Brympton House in Somerset, I just knew it was going to be something special. I couldn’t have been more thrilled to be working with them to create their edible masterpiece. Having been recommended by Ben from French Kitchen, the couple had a clear vision in their mind and were ready to make their wedding cake as memorable as their love story…

Luxury Wedding Cake

From our very first consultation, Katie’s excitement and creativity for her wedding cake was palpable. Joined by her mum, they came along to meet me, armed with ideas and inspiration. Katie had an image in mind her of what she wanted – an elegant wedding cake with a subtle yet luxurious twist – and we got straight to work crafting a detailed design. Following some discussion, we settled on the idea of a wedding cake that featured a stunning and intricate spiral cascade of sugar flowers, infusing their wedding cake with drama, elegance and impact.

When it came to bringing Katie and Alex’s vision to life, I knew I needed to create something that aligned with the beauty of their Somerset wedding venue. The cascading handcrafted sugar flowers tied in wonderfully with their exquisite floral design that featured heavily throughout their wedding day. Every single sugar flower that graced their wedding cake was crafted by hand, with a delicate yet elaborate design. The flowers remained white, blending seamlessly with the rest of their wedding cake that had been adorned with Couture Sugar Paste, offering a timeless and minimalist style. Displayed proudly on a stylish acrylic stand, their multi-tiered wedding cake masterpiece became a focal point of their celebration, where their loved ones could admire the edible work of art.

The size of their wedding cake was also hugely important, as the couple planned on inviting over 400 guests, so we needed to ensure everyone had a slice of cake. Because of this, flavour was key for Katie and Alex. Every tier of their wedding cake was designed to be different, which is something I often encourage my couples to experiment and have fun with. Spanning six tiers, we showcased a variety of flavours, creating a creative and unexpected element to their wedding cake. Each flavour had been carefully chosen by the couple, including fragrant lemon & elderflower with blackcurrant, indulgent chocolate decadence, sweet miso caramel and classic red velvet. The top tier was our showstopper, offering guests a taste of matcha and coconut, adding a modern and sophisticated contrast to the other tiers.

When the big day arrived, Katie and Alex held their ceremony at St Andrew’s Church, located onsite at Brympton House. Following their ‘I Do’ moment, the couple and their guests were gently guided to a vast marquee reception on the picturesque lawns. It was the perfect setting for their relaxed yet refined celebration. The sheer scale of the marquee, combined with the majestic backdrop of Brympton house, ensured their wedding day was unforgettable.

It was such an honour to work with Katie & Alex, making their wedding cake dreams become a reality while playing a role in their extraordinary day. If you are looking for a luxury wedding cake with a focus on flavour, premium ingredients and a seamless experience, I welcome you to get in touch to find out more about how we can collaborate.
